Beginning the internship process at Deerfield was a little bit different for me. Having already graduated college, I felt like I was taking a step backward and not forward. However, once I interviewed at Deerfield and learned more about what they do, I was excited to take on the opportunity. And it was a welcoming experience – by day one, nearly everyone made an effort to introduce themselves and offered some advice on starting out.
Unlike the stereotypical intern experience of getting coffee and organizing PowerPoints, I found myself being treated more like an employee rather than an intern. I was asked for advice on creative concepts and felt empowered to share my opinion on projects. It was very encouraging to work at an agency that cares about the future of its company by putting in the effort to develop younger talent.
Throughout my internship, I was trained on a lot of the internal processes that exist within the different departments at Deerfield. I then put this information into practice by handling the flow of some current projects. Additionally, the fellow interns and I were asked to create a brand plan for a pharma company of our choosing. This gave me the opportunity to talk to the different departments within the agency and learn more about what they do and how they support our clients. At the end of the summer, we used our newfound pharma knowledge to create a presentation that we gave to the whole company. Once I completed this internship, I was excited to accept an offer for a full-time position.
Coming into work that first day brought some concerns that things might be different. However, the transition was simple – I wasn't treated any differently or given loads of busy work. My team continued to challenge me with different projects. As I continue to advance at Deerfield, I am excited to contribute more to different departments and expand my agency knowledge.
I am grateful to work at a place like Deerfield, where employees are valued no matter what level they are at in their career. I appreciate having found a company that provides its employees with opportunities for personal and professional growth to build a career that best suits them and encourages them to do their best work. I am excited for the future of Deerfield and the role I can play in helping them build it. I would definitely recommend Deerfield to anyone, especially recent grads, looking for a place that has a top-notch culture, resources to develop new skills, and a popcorn machine!
